Elphaba Thropp walked into the local coffee shop. There was so much to visit in the Emerald City. But so little time. As she walked in only a few people stared but not as much as they normall would. She was personally delighted. Finally a place where she fit in and didn't attract attention. She sat by herself at a coffee table.
She had come to the Emerald City to meet the wizard. Finally after training so hard her dream was within her reach. She had come with Galinda, well Glinda but she was off shopping somewhere in the city. Shopping with Glinda was sort of unbearable. She waited for a waitress to come take her order so she could have some coffee. She sort of regretted coming alone. She was the only one there by herself. She was still out of place.

Lydia noticed the green girl walk into the shop, she smiled slightly grabbing a note pad and a pen as she went to take her order. Pushing a strand of white hair from her face, she walked around the counter and over to the table where the girl sat. Smiling slightly she stood before the table.
“Hello, What would you like today?” She asked, Lydia couldn’t help but stare, though the girl was green, she was extremely beautiful. Lydia shook her head from her thoughts and turned to the girl, waiting for her answer.

Elphaba noticed a girl with extreemely white skin and white hair walk to her table with a notepad to take her order. The girl started at Elphaba for a few seconds and noticed her shake her head. Elphaba wondered what thoughts were going through her mind. but she did seem like someone interesting. Someone whom Elphaba might when to get to know more.
She snapped out of her thoughts when the girl asked what she would like today. "Hello, I haven't been here before. Just came into the city. Have any coffee suggestions?" She asked back. Elphaba was about to have her first coffee in the Emerald City. So it might not seem so grand at that moment but it might be something she would remember when older.

Lydia smiled, generously at the green girl, “Well…My personal favorites are pumpkin and Vanilla flavor, they’re very good if you ask me.” She said to the girl. Lydia couldn’t help but still stare, she felt like a bad person for staring, the poor girl must get stares all the time. “There’s also other flavors, I could let you test some if you’d like,” Lydia said.
Lydia waited for the girl’s order, but waited patiently, the last thing she wanted to do was rush her. Lydia tapped her pin against her chin, wondering where the girl might had come from, she’d never seen anyone so…different before. But her different was a good different. She smiled again, at the girl’s beauty. “I’m sorry, but may I ask your name?” She asked the green girl.

Elphaba smiled. Vanilla was okay but Punpkin sounded great at the moment. She didn't want to cause the poor girl trouble with listing all the flavors. That would be quite annoying. Elphaba knew if she was in the girl's situation she would be annoyed by now but would probably be staring more. At least the girl didn't make any comment yet about her green skin. "I would like to try the pumpkin." she said trying to imagine how it would taste.
Elphaba forgot how the girl asked for her name. She did seem curious. What would it hurt, since she was meeting the Wizard in the next few days soon enough everyone would know her name. She liked that thought more than she should've. "My name is Elphaba Thropp." she said introducing herself "and you?" she asked back politely. She was curious about this girl. She seemed like someone who Elphaba would love to talk to.

Lydia smiled at the Elphaba, “Pretty name,” She complemented her, “My Name is Lydia, Lydia Lambert,” She told the girl. Lydia wrote some words down on the note pad she had brought with her, “Alright, I’ll be back in two ticks,” She said turning from the green girl. Elphaba seemed really nice, though she was probably just being nice so she could get her coffee faster and go. It was strange how Lydia gained the courage to ask for the girl’s name. Usually she was too shy to do anything but ask what the person wanted to drink.
Lydia went back behind the counter and grabbed one of the coffee cups, and filled it with the pumpkin flavored Coffee. The Smell was mouth watering. Smiling to herself she filled the coffee cup up with the coffee and popped a lid on it. She took hold of the cup and walked back to Elphaba, giving a gentle smile she handed her order to her, “Here you are, Ma’am,” She said to her.

Before Elphaba got a chance to compliment Lydia or even say thanks she went off to get her coffee. Lydia seemed extreemely nice. She wondered if she was just pretending because it was her job. She was a waitress and they had to be polite to the customers. But one thing is for sure, this girl deserved a tip. Elphaba gave herself a small smile as she waited for Lydia to come back.
"Thank you." she said softly and blew on the coffee a little. She brought it to her lips and took a small sip. The coffee ran down her throat. She gave a small relaxed smile. Definitely was what she needed. "Um...Lydia." Elphaba started a little shyly. "Do you have some time to sit down and talk?" she asked quietly avoiding eye contact out of shyness but she looked up trying to be more confident.

Lydia was a little taken back that the girl asked her to sit down. Most of the people that came in here wouldn’t give her the time of day. She smiled and nodded, taking a seat on the other side of the table from Elphaba, “Sure, I’d love to talk,” Lydia nodded. Lydia would love to hear about the fascinating girl, but she didn’t want things to become too personal between the two of them. After all she had just met her.
Lydia ran her hands through her long white hair, twirling the ends in her fingers. She smiled, “What would you like to talk about?” She asked, continuing to fiddle with her hair, slightly shy. She turned and looked around the shop at a few people staring at the green girl and herself, “What are you staring at?” She asked the people, though no one answered, only turned away. She turned back to Elphaba waiting for her to start a conversation.

Elphaba slightly smiled as Lydai joined her. She asked what she would like to talk about. Well that was a tough one. And certainly something Elphaba clearly hadn't thought out. She was about to suggest getting to know each other when Lydia turned around and snapped at someone for staring at them. More like asked what they were staring at.
"I think we both know what they were staring at." Elphaba said and self conciously looked at her green hand. Of course people would stare. Considering Elphaba's green skin and Lydia's close to white. They were bound to attract attention. "But don't worry about it. People stare all the time. I just don't let it bother me." she said. Some way to start the conversation. Talking about how people think you're a freak. Nice job Elphaba! she thought to herself. Little voices in her head were starting to get annoying.

Lydia giggled slightly, “Yeah well, I’d give up anything to have some color tent to my body, And you well…I must saw it’s a lovely color on you,” She smiled, hoping she’d take it as a complement, Lydia, be careful what you say, you might offend her! She yelled in her mind. Then smiled, “People stare at me too, sometimes I get mistaken for an old lady…do you know how many kids have offered to help me cross the street?” She smiled slightly, thinking it was kind of funny.
She looked up at Elphaba, “But this conversation isn’t about me, it’s about you..., I don’t think I’ve seen you in the Emerald City before, New around here?” She asked. Stupid Question, Lydia. Of course she’s not from around here, she said she’s never been here before!

Elphaba was shocked. Lydia actually complimented her. But she had to be lying. Lydia must have been just saying it to be nice! Elphaba remembered how people told her she needed to learn how to take a compliment. That would be easy if she actually knew they weren't lying. "Yes but it is a pain. I clash with everything." she said and had to give a small smile at her comment. It was true though. Finding things to wear was hard for Elphaba.
Elphaba bit her lip to hide in a laugh about the little kids mistaking her as an old lady. "That's horrible." she said giving a small smile "but at least it is better than being mistaken as a walking vegetable." she replied. Then the girl asked about where Elphaba was from. "I am actually a student at Shiz University. It is sort of a long story about why I am here." Elphaba said.

Lydia shrugged, “Black, White and Brown go with any color,” She told her, smiling, “And as for being called a Walking Vegetable….well…You got me there…” She chuckled to herself. It’ must be hard being green, though Lydia would take that color over being pure white any day of the week!
Lydia raised an eyebrow, “Shiz? I went there, odd I never saw you, Though I dropped out just a few months ago,” She said sighing slightly, it would have been nice to have actually have known the girl before she quit. “Well I’m up for a long story, Take your time,” She smiled sitting back in her chair.

Elphaba smiled. "I think you basically named my whole closet." Elphaba said with a small laugh. Elphaba had to smile to herself. She hoped she would finally get Lydia to realize that being green is not a good thing. Elphaba would rather be white over green any day! She then questioned about Shiz and not seeing her there. Elphaba knew this was another long story. Might as well start with her sister and why she went to Shiz.
"I just joined this year. My father is actually governor of munchkin land. My younger sister Nessa, also the one to become governor one day. she is in a wheelchair. My father only let me go to watch over her." Elphaba said lowering her voice. She never really told people about her father because no one knew he had another daughter. Because she embarassed him.

Lydia sighed, “I know the feeling, I have a brother, and I swear he’s dumber than a box of rocks…” She sighed shaking her head, “I only got to go to make sure he wouldn’t do something stupid, I’M THE SMART ONE…and he get’s the good looks too.” She sighed sitting back. Maybe her and Elphaba had more in common than she had thought. Then tilted her head about her sister.
“Your sister is in a wheelchair? What happened...? And she’s going to become the governor after your father?...I thought the oldest was always supposed to get the right to things like that…” She said. That didn’t seem very fair at all, was her dad the type of person to play favorites with his children. That was downright cruel

Elphaba shook her head. "Not that she's dumb. She is actually pretty smart. Just her disability. My father wants me to keep her safe." she said. She didn't want to give Lydia the wrong idea about Nessa. She then mentioned about why she was in the wheelchair and how it was unfair. "It is supposed to be the oldest. But things...happen." Elphaba said. A lot of things happen.
She sighed. She wasn't sure if she wanted to get into the subject about her father and the wheelchair but she felt like she could trust Lydia. She might even give Elphaba some advice or talk to her about it. Glinda was just there to listen but telling Lydia might offer more. Might make her feel better. "My father favors her because he hates me. Because I am the reason she is in the wheelchair." Elphaba said softly. She was told it was her fault so she believed it.
